Intelligent Medical Objects Links Clinical Vocabularies to
Lexi-Comp's Information Library

06/16/1999

CHICAGO, Illinois, June 16, 1999 - Intelligent Medical Objects (IMO), the medical software and knowledge management firm known for its expertise in point-of-care medical applications and vocabulary management, announces the release and immediate availability of its medication and procedural vocabularies with direct links to Lexi-Comp's clinical reference libraries.

The IMO Relational Structure for Medi-Span offers a database environment and application modules which allow for access to Medi-Span's drug files (Brand / Trade / Generic names and dosing), drug classification, drug interaction checking, drug indication / contraindication information, patient education and drug pricing. With this datasource at its core, IMO's Plug n' Play Lotus Notes™ and Internet application modules are able to provide full, point-of-care medication management, prescription writing and drug decision support.

The IMO Enhanced CPT datasource is an extensively enhanced procedural vocabulary based on the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT). IMO has authored improved "short" name descriptions and a word list index which allow for improved clinical coding and database access at the point-of-care and for data repository analysis. This product allows software applications to be developed so healthcare professionals can find codes based on natural language concepts and clinical relationships among the procedural codes within order-entry and superbill-like applications.

The Lexi-Comp™ clinical reference databases, in use by over 500 hospitals nationwide, provide in-depth clinical information concerning medications, laboratory and diagnostic testing. The clinical databases are available in multiple formats and are geared towards helping the full spectrum of healthcare professionals find the answers they need as quickly and easily as possible.

"With the several thousand links IMO has created to Lexi-Comp's clinical reference library, the IMO datasources and clinical modules now have an additional powerful feature: single click, immediate access to specific and relevant clinical information at the most appropriate time - the point-of-care. With these direct links, a healthcare professional can access a medication's clinical information, for example, directly from the prescription writing module. There is no longer the need for opening up a separate application, "navigating" the index or table of contents and performing a separate search to find the drug or test of interest." said Fabio Almeida MD, Executive VP and Chief Medical Officer for IMO.

IMO is providing all these services as components or "Internet Portals" for rapid deployment and delivery of clinical applications. By linking its enhanced lexicons to the Lexi-Comp library, IMO allows applications using IMO solutions direct access to the pertinent support information when it's needed.
