Abstract
This paper describes the development of our Intelligent Medical Record system implemented through a Feature Dictionary and a Portable Patient File. The Feature Dictionary supports translation of medical knowledge across multiple domains while the Portable Patient File supplies a standard format by which patient data is stored. The Portable Patient File and the Feature Dictionary combine to provide an intelligent medical record which can accept data from many sources and serve as input to a number of computer-based information retrieval systems and medical expert systems. The fact that medical records can be manipulated and viewed in multiple systems makes our medical record system intelligent.
