Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer

The BI Engineer works with data collection, data warehousing, and data reporting efforts.  She or he focuses on the design and implementation of a data warehouse to store all of IMO’s relevant operational data, gathering data into the warehouse, analysis of the data and providing internal customers access to the data appropriately (either by reports or web services). The BI Engineer is an interdisciplinary individual who works closely with many stakeholders to ensure that the data most important to analyzing and improving IMO’s operations is accessible and well-understood.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work in a cross functional capacity with product teams to understand their requirements and deliver Business Intelligence solutions for their data and reporting needs.

  • Work in the IMO Software Engineering Department.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Must have:

  • Experience with one or more databases, such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or Redshift.
  • Expert level knowledge of SQL.
  • Experience processing raw data using ETL tools and custom scripts.
  • Experience using Python.
  • An enjoyment of technical challenges and eagerness to explore.
  • A willingness to ask for help and ability to communicate what you need to do your best work.
  • The ability to follow good development practices like source control, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.

Nice to have:

  • Experience designing or maintaining a data warehouse or data marts.
  • Experience with fact and dimension tables.
  • Experience with C#.
  • A solid understanding of software construction and principles.
  • An academic degree in Computer Science or comparable discipline.

  • Internal product, engineering and sales teams will be primary customers for this position.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements of the Job

  • This position will require employee to work on site at the IMO headquarters in Northbrook, IL.
