Clinical Terminology Analyst

The Clinical Terminology Analyst is a member of the Knowledge Team. The Knowledge Team is responsible for the creation and maintenance of IMO’s rapidly expanding clinical terminology content, which is the most widely used and physician-preferred terminology service for electronic health record (EHR) systems. This position is ideal for a clinician with an organized approach to thinking, who enjoys detailed, analytical work, and has a passion for learning. A love for language, words, and desire for precise and clear verbal expression of ideas would also indicate that you could be a good fit for this position.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Migration of customer term dictionaries to IMO terminology
  • Collaborate with Terminology Analysts, Coders, and Clinical Terminologists to perform maintenance, development, and QA of IMO’s terminology content
  • Provides domain expertise to support validity and consistency of content
  • Review updates to standardized terminologies and update IMO terminology content as needed
  • Active participation in staff meetings
  • Develop and document processes and policies
  • Maintain professional domain knowledge

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Degree in medicine (M.D. or D.O.), nursing, or other clinical discipline (e.g. N.P., P.A.-C, etc.)
  • 3+ years clinical experience
  • Deep understanding of nuances of language and meaning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly drafting and communicating recommendations for standards
  • Experience collaborating with non-clinician colleagues
  • Comfortable with individual work being closely reviewed and willing to accept constructive feedback
  • Ability to perform complex work with high attention to detail
  • Ability to conduct searches of medical and scientific literature
  • Ability to identify patterns in verbal content and data
  • Excellent knowledge of English vocabulary and grammar
  • Formal informatics training a strong plus
  • Ability to write SQL of moderate complexity a plus
  • Logical thinker
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks with little direction
  • Flexible with job assignments and due dates
  • Prepared to spend most of one’s time at a computer
  • Familiarity with Microsoft office
