Systems Administrator – Network Services

Responsible for supporting ITS equipment and employees in a Microsoft Windows and Linux environment, from design through implementation including ongoing scheduled maintenance and troubleshooting. Performs a wide variety of installation, configuration and upgrading of servers and related hardware and software. Provide investigation, diagnostic testing and repair/resolution of ITS supported infrastructure. Technical point of contact for IMO’s messaging environments (O365), software deployment through SCCM, and all licensing requirements for software usage. Works as an integral part of the systems team.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify, troubleshoot and resolve hardware-, software- and network-related problems encountered by both local and remote end-users. 
  • Research new technologies and provide documentation to senior ITS staff members.
  • Document all necessary training information for end-users as well as other ITS members.
  • Provide reports on Active Directory, Group Policies, and License usage enterprise-wide.
  • Assist developers and ITS members with virtual environment administration.
  • Use established tracking system to log requests; monitor progress, track problem resolution, identify patterns of failure, research bug fixes, and implement solutions; communicate with manager regarding unresolved problems.
  • Work with vendors and ITS personnel to resolve hardware operating system issues; research and test possible solutions and implement solutions.
  • Work with various department users to solve system application and usability issues by replicating the issue and implementing fixes.
  • Deploy software packages and maintain software patching per ITS departmental guidelines.
  • Assist with monthly internal OS patching on Windows and Linux systems.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system, security, and application logs.
  • Help manage data backups of servers and workstations as required.
  • Provide escalated support for other ITS team members.
  • Other tasks as assigned by senior staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes

  • Bachelor's degree with a technical major such as engineering or computer science
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working in Information Technology
  • Strong knowledge of Office365 and other Microsoft products
  • Scripting or automation experience including PowerShell and SCSM
  • Advanced SCCM or other configuration manager experience required
  • Strong knowledge of workstation, laptop, and server hardware 
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office Suites (Win7+ and Office 2013+)
  • Excellent hardware and software troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of networking technologies (DNS, DHCP, VLAN, ACL, VPN, QoS)
  • Microsoft, Comptia, or Cisco certification required
  • Knowledge of Linux (RedHat, Debian, BSD) required
  • Knowledge of Antivirus technologies or ITIL a plus
